Ethan began his journey with chess in May 2025, and although he was initially a shy and reserved child, he showed a strong interest in the game from the very beginning. With the dedicated guidance of his teacher, Heer, he has gradually grown in both skill and confidence, learning not only the fundamentals of chess but also how to express himself more openly. Chess has played an important role in helping him overcome his fears and inhibitions, allowing him to become more focused, engaged, and willing to take on challenges. It has been truly rewarding to see his steady improvement, and he continues to develop into a more confident and enthusiastic learner.
Coach Feedback:
When I think about Ethan’s journey, I can’t help but feel genuinely proud of how far he has come. What makes Ethan truly wonderful to teach is his sincerity. He listens carefully, tries his best, and never gives up easily, even when something feels challenging. Chess has become a safe space for him to explore, make mistakes, and grow, and he’s embracing that process more and more with each class.
Seeing him become more focused, more engaged, and more willing to challenge himself has been deeply rewarding. He may still be on the quieter side, but there’s a growing confidence within him that shines through, and I have no doubt that this will continue to blossom.
